Bottega: 74 Bourke Street, Melbourne

As a lovely reward for volunteering at the recent Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, us volunteers were provided with a special offer to receive two tickets for the price of one to a runway show.

The options were the Target Runway, the Opening Show or the GQ Men’s Runway.

I decided to take my mum and we chose the David Jones Opening Show to be held at 9:30pm at Central Pier, Docklands. How exciting!!

Wanting to make a night of it, we arranged to have dinner together in the city beforehand.

Unfortunately, I left it until the last minute to search for a suitable restaurant due to being caught up with other things and kept being told that the venues were fully booked.

Mum then suggested we try ‘Bottega’ located on Bourke Street, right near Parliament station. Not only was this restaurant in the Entertainment Book, but Bottega was in the ‘gold’ section – I knew this was bound to be a very special meal.

As soon as you step into Bottega, it feels as though you have been transferred straight to New York City. This restaurant is stunning, in every aspect. With upstairs and downstairs areas and waiters having to constantly knock groups back as they cannot accommodate them, this restaurant was already impressing me. The decor is simple, stylish and elegant and staff incredibly friendly upon welcoming us and guiding us to our table. Bottega had me immediately.

For entrée, we shared the Baccala and Potato Croquettes, which were absolutely divine. The perfect size, these starters were so tasty and flavorsome, melt-in-your-mouth type yummy!

For main, Mum had the Tasmanian Scotch Fillet with Rocket, Watercress, Pickled Shallot & Pecorino salad to which she enjoyed greatly.

I decided upon having the entrée Char-Grilled Octopus as a main size that was accompanied by watercress, house made semi sun-dried tomatoes, potato. The octopus was cooked to perfectly and it is safe to say that nothing was left on my plate!

For dessert, Mum chose the Gianduja Chocolate Cremoso, with chocolate sponge, hazelnut praline, amarena cherry which arrived in a glass and appeared in a mouse-like texture which was apparently divine.

I had the Pineapple Semifreddo with crema inglese e pistachio and raspberry coulis, which was utter perfection, every mouthful was such a pleasure.

I highly recommend this stunning restaurant for your next special occasion, whether that is an upcoming anniversary, birthday or just a celebration of happy times. I can guarantee you will love everything about it and will leave with a huge smile on your face. Or! Why not try the ‘Pre-Theatre’ deal? Two course for just $45 or three for $55! Perfect.
