For my partner and I’s four year anniversary we wanted to continue the tradition of going into the city for a wonderful dinner and a drink however wanted to break the mold of going for pizza and find a suitable, fine dining restaurant.
We turned to the Entertainment Book, the ‘gold’ section to be precise, and found Society on Bourke Street. Society was exactly what we were looking for; stylish, elegant and sophisticated. The menu, whilst expensive, was divine and we had already picked what we were going to order out of sheer excitement!
We arrived at the restaurant at 8pm and immediately the romance of the restaurant was apparent. Dim lighting made for a dark and mysterious atmosphere with low chatter and candles on the tables. We were seated at the front of the restaurant right next to the window – it couldn’t have been more perfect.
For entrée we ordered the ‘Polpette Casercce’, pork & beef meatballs braised in a rich tomato & basil sugo which were as perfect as they sound. The tomato sauce was rich as they promised and left me wanting more, absolutely delicious! For main, my partner ordered the ‘Goat’ special which came with a wonderful sauce, cherry tomatoes and olives which was nothing short of perfection – he couldn’t get enough! Fresh ingredients with a fantastic sauce made for a great meal, I was so pleased he enjoyed it so much as sometimes specials can be a risk.
For myself, I ordered the ‘Riverina Sirloin’ served with spinach, parmesan, radicchio & bresaola salad finished with red wine & veal jus. Equally as scrumptious as the goat special, I was thrilled with my choice and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Once again, the sauce was unbelievable, my favourite part of the meal!
Overall, our experience at Society was fantastic. We received excellent service from the waiters, they were attentive, polite and friendly and this made for an even better evening.
I most definitely recommend this restaurant for those of you looking for a romantic evening whether that is an anniversary, a birthday celebration or just a well-deserved fancy night out.
