Overall, I believe the quality of dresses was really stepped up this year. Whilst there were some very risky choices, mostly both the women and men looked great. Plus, the poor things had to attempt to look their best in the sweltering 40+ degree heat!
First up, we have the lovely Lady Gaga.
Dressed in an all black one-shouldered gown Brandon Maxwell gown from his SS16 collection, Gage looked radiant. Minimal and unassuming, the starlet rocked the red carpet with her heart-shaped engagement ring in tow. On anyone else, I would scream ‘boring!’ at the TV, however Lady Gage is known for big red gloves and meat dresses and this under-stated gown is just stunning on her. Fitting her in all the right places, her tattoos are showing, which hey – it is Gaga, I like it!
Next up, we have Tatiana Maslany. We all know how much I love a good pant suit and my goodness this one is no different! The plunging neck line, no shirt underneath, the structured pant – it is just perfection, well done Tatiana! Good job on the red lip too, the all white needed a pop of colour! The only things I will say is that the clutch does appear to be a little bit of a let down, and some bigger earrings may have taken the look to a polarising level – but otherwise, love it.
And finally, we have Samira Wiley in this glamorous hot pink, off the shoulder gown. This bright pop of colour is refreshing, and not to mention the fact that it fits her so well! This was my favourite dress of the evening by far, the colour is just divine and the cape is a lovely touch.
I would like to give a special mention to Joanna Newsom, singer and wife of the Emmy’s host this year, Andy Samberg, whose dress I adore from the waist up and was designed by Delpozo. It is such a shame that the material did not continue down past her waist, what a stunning colour for her beautiful complexion! The tulle unfortunately ruins the dress, and distracts you from the incredible detail in the chest area. (Side not: A low pony tail with a visible black hair tie is also a very poor choice Joanna! You appear to have beautiful hair, why not put it up in a lovely bun, or curl it and put it the side?)
