To avoid our impending assignments, my friends and I ventured to my aunties restaurant ‘The Moat’ for happy hour on our mid-semester uni break. What a wonderful way to distract us from our studies!
My lovely friends were excited to try her restaurant, and I, not having tried the happy hour before, was keen to show them.
Located on the right hand side of the State Library, The Moat is an elegant underground restaurant that oozes sophistication with book-lined walls creating a feeling of being in a secret old library.
Happy hour is 4.30pm – 6pm weekdays and includes a variety of house wines at $5 each and signature cocktails at just $10! Naturally, this is any university students dream.
I ordered the Margarita with tequila, Cointreau, lemon and lime juice – it did not disappoint!
As we sat and sipped our cheap, delicious cocktails in this beautiful environment hidden underneath the city, we became peckish and decided to order a series of dishes from the happy hour food menu.
(Keeping in mind we were four very hungry young women!) We ordered two serves of the ‘roast chat potatoes with smoked garlic aioli’ – because who doesn’t love roast potatoes with alcohol?! We also had the ‘green lentil Dahl with cumin yoghurt and roti bread’ and the ‘chipotle chicken ribs with smoked garlic aioli’.
The ribs were absolutely finger licking good! So moorish, just like the scrumptious and flavoursome chat potatoes.
What absolutely stood out for me, however, was the green lentil Dahl. Cannot recommend highly enough for its fresh and mouthwatering flavour.
Overall, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I’m already planning to take my best friend to The Moat for happy hour next week!
Couldn’t recommend highly enough, go and explore this stunning café, bar and restaurant and relish in it’s elegance and delectable food.Ths
